NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Legendary music producer Billy Sherrill, known for his collaborations with George Jones and Tammy Wynette, has died. He was 78.

Sherrill died Tuesday. His cause of death was not immediately known.

A native of Alabama, Sherrill was one of the best known producers in Nashville throughout the 1960s and ‘70s.

Although he worked with numerous country greats throughout his career, he is perhaps best remembered for his association with Tammy Wynette and George Jones.
