NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) — More than 2,400 people filed in and out of the Nashville International Airport's newest garage on Thursday, after the garage opened up to the public.

"We had the first car in at 12:06 a.m.," Nashville Airport spokesperson Jared Porter said. "It's been a great day, it's been a very busy day at this new facility."

The $115 million garage has 2,200 parking spaces and will be home to short term parking, rideshare pickup, taxis and shuttles. It boasts modern features like machines allowing you to pay for your spot before you leave and that can help you find your car. Many travelers said the new space was an exciting addition to the airport.

But others said the change created a holiday travel headache.

"I'm a very frequent flier," Kendall Duffie said. "I just landed today and had no idea that they moved the rideshare pickup area to a new location, and apparently neither did the driver. It's gonna be hectic for travelers, expecially this holiday season."

The change comes days before Christmas and one of the busiest travel weeks of the year.

"We really didn't want to push it until after the holidays, holiday time is a busy travel time so all the more reason to have the garage open," Porter said.

Airport officials urged passengers to read about the updates on their website to help them plan their trip before arriving to the airport.
