NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) — Have you heard about the Enneagram? More and more Nashville companies are using it as a tool to help their employees better understand their co-workers and themselves.

"The best way for me to describe the Enneagram, it's this wonderful tool that has some parts that are spiritual, some parts that are psychological," said Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, Liz Perez, "It all comes together and helps people better understand their personality type."

Perez says Nashvillians are picking-up on the premise.

"It's being used in Nashville a lot. I’m getting asked to come into different companies like this one to help teams," she said. "For leaders with their personality type and then for their team. The more we can understand each other, what motivates us what drives us. It really can round out the team that’s why companies are using it especially for hiring."

It starts by finding out your number, one through nine.

You can be "the loyalist" or the "achiever" maybe "the helper."

"Basically how they interact with themselves and other people and how they view the world through their lenses," she said.

Katie Adkisson helps run Reed Public Relations.

"I'm an eight [on the Enneagram]," she said.

Adkisson says understanding herself better and bringing-in therapists like Perez has helped with workplace communication.

Perez says starting March 10 for four weeks Spero Dei Church in Sylvan Park will be hosting classes that go deeper into the Enneagram.
