NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Nashville fire crews spent hours Monday evening battling a 2-alarm house fire in Madison.

The first calls for help at the home, located at 1122 W Old Hickory Boulevard, went out just before 6 p.m. An hour later additional crews were still being called to the scene.

When fire crews arrived, the home along with a detached garage were fully involved. Heavy flames and thick black smoke was rolling out of the home. The smoke could be seen for miles around.

Firefighters battled the blaze for about 45 minutes before getting it under control. The garage was destroyed and the home suffered significant damage.

A neighbor's house also suffered slight damage after some siding melted from the heat and flames.

The homeowner was able to get out safely and even tried to battle the blaze first with a water hose.

At this point fire investigators believe the fire may be connected to an electric grill near the garage. An exact cause will take a few days to determine.
