Educators from all over the country made their way to the Music City for the National Charter School Convention.
Governor Bill Haslam addressed the group Monday at the Music City Center.
He said he's a firm believer that there should be many types of educational opportunities for students.
Charter schools are public schools operated by independent, non-profit governing bodies that must include parents.
In Tennessee, public charter school students are measured against the same academic standards as students in other public schools.
