NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Music City is making way for its very first Mardi Gras celebration.

Nashville's take on the festival called, Mardi Gras Y'all, kicked off Friday night with a pre-party at Silver Dollar Saloon. The king and queen of Mardi Gras were supposed to be crowned with plenty of beads to go around.

"Throughout the crowd you're going to also see things like statue people and things you would see in the French quarter we're bringing the French quarter downtown," said "Moose" a DJ for JackFM.

The environment during the daytime hours is expected to be geared towards more family friendly activities.

Around 30,000 people are expected to descend upon downtown Saturday for the event between the hours of 12 p.m. and 10 p.m.

Streets will begin closing off Friday night as crews begin setting up stages along 1st Avenue and Broadway.
