Nashville JCC Holds Security Forum After Threats

Nashville's Gordon Jewish Community Center held a security forum in the wake of a number of bomb threats it has received since January.

Federal officials have been investigating more than 120 threats against Jewish organizations in three dozen states since Jan. 9 and a rash of vandalism at Jewish cemeteries.

A spokesman for the Nashville JCC said the center is one of the few around the country to have received as many as three bomb threats.

Nashville Mayor Megan Barry and members of the Justice Department were among the speakers at Wednesday's security forum.

Gross said the JCC put security protocols in place after the 9/11 terrorist attacks. Still, he said the recent bomb threats have been "unnerving."

The FBI said agents have been tracking the investigation, but technology used by the people behind the threats is making it harder for the FBI to find out where the threats are coming from.

“I wish there was a lot I could tell you tonight about where we've gone,” said FBI Assistant Special Agent in Charge Matthew Espenshade. “I've seen where the investigation is, and I can tell you it’s incredibly sophisticated.”

Mayor Megan Barry reassured the crowd, saying anti-Semitism will not stand in Nashville.
