Nashville Man Arrested Following Amber Alert

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – A Nashville man is facing charges in connection to an Amber Alert issued Friday for a teenage girl in Putnam County.

Elijah Smith, age 28, is facing several charges including statutory rape.

The Putnam County Sheriff’s Office say Smith was taken into custody Sunday after crashing his car into a ditch near the junction of Old Gainesboro Highway and Cumby Road in Baxter.

Smith was a suspect in the Amber Alert issued Friday for the 14-year-old. Deputies found the girl lying down in the grass not far from where Smith wrecked his car. She is now safely home with her parents.

“I am extremely proud of the quick and decisive actions taken by our deputies in conjunction with THP and our municipal police officers,” said Sheriff Eddie Farris. “As a result of their quick thinking and decisive actions, we were able to apprehend the subject without incident and deliver the young lady safely home to her parents.”

Smith is facing several others charges including DUI and contributing to the delinquency of a minor

He was booked into Putnam County Jail.
