Nashville Mayor Megan Barry announced the events for Nashville's firs Marine Week, which will fill the Music City streets with Marines.
Barry was joined by country singer Aaron Tippin and several marines Wednesday morning as they announced the events.
Each year Marine Week is held in a city that doesn't have access to a Marine base. Officials said, ultimately, it's about being able to meet the people they protect.
"It's an opportunity for them to be able to meet them, shake their hands, ask them what they do and why they do it, what motivates them, a chance for us to be able to share some of our history, heritage, our traditions. Let them know what we bring to the nation," said Brig. Gen. Robert Castellvi.
Marine Week was set for September 7-11 with more 80 free events and performances.
