Nashville has been selected as one of 10 Housing and Urban Development Choice Neighborhoods to split $8 million.
The big announcement was made Friday morning by the Metropolitan Development and Housing Authority HUD officials.
Of the 10 neighborhoods, four of them, including Nashville, are receiving planning grants that will help fund the renovation and revitalization of the Napier-Sudekum neighborhood as well as 800 more public housing units.
And MDHA Executive Director Jim Harbison said this was only the beginning.
“We are taking the first steps today on a very important but somewhat of a long journey to bring this community into the world that we want them to be,” said Harbison.
The grant will provide MDHA with $500 for the revitalization program. An additional $1 million will be announced for the communities that are in the implementation phase.
