NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) — If your dog was choking or struggling to breathe would you know what to do? Nashville Veterinary Specialists is helping pet owners with a free CPR class Saturday morning, March 30th from 10am to noon. Becky Dan the Director of Marketing and Community Outreach and a fellow pet parent.

She and a clinic vet will take you through the basics like how to perform CPR on both small and large dogs and how to muzzle an animal who is in pain (so you don't get bit). You'll even learn the Heimlich Maneuver.

"We get people that say all the time, 'I didn’t even know you could do CPR on an animal' and you can. It’s just a little bit different. You have to breathe in their nose instead of in their mouth because they have such big mouths we call that mouth-to-snout resuscitation," said Dan.

The course is free. No need to bring your pet, you will learn on stuffed models.

"We have gotten several emails from people who have taken the class who directly attributed to saving their pets life. We've had situations where people actually took action and were able to clear a choking pets airway. We even had a woman who did CPR on a puppy was able to revive it," she said.

You can RSVP Online. Click here for more information. You can also sign up for their newsletter where they'll keep you updated on future workshops.
