Six officers with the Metro Police Department were honored as Employees of The Year Friday.

The department employs 1,900 officers who each give their all every day. However, only a few are awarded the honor as employees of the year.

Chief Steve Anderson awarded the six officers Friday morning.

Officer Jonathan Frith was one of the first officers to enter the Hickory 8 movie theater in August in the midst of an active shooter situation. “I can’t take all the credit. I was there with three other officers. I wouldn’t have gone in there by myself but knowing that I had three awesome officers behind my back and they allowed me to take charge, per say…made sure everyone came out intact and alive,” Frith explained.

Officer Matthew Cammarn helped save a 17-year-old gunshot victim before paramedics arrived, his actions saved that young man's life. “We had just got our trauma kits that go inside of our vests two days prior to this and if I wouldn’t have had that he probably wouldn’t be here today,” Cammarn said.

Detective Mike Roland lead a double homicide investigation which ended with the confessions from two suspects, their victim's bodies were found in a closet in East Nashville. Detective Lindsey Smith's work lead to the arrest of woman accused of murdering Gilbert Fowler, his body was found inside a car parked on Lunn Drive.

Officer Josh Black works with special operations and helped locate and arrest two violent fugitives, one of which is accused of stealing weapons from law enforcement vehicles. Also, Ms. Jackie Hoffman, who recently retired, was honored for her work with the department's human resources office.

"To get an honor, as always it always makes you feel great. Its like the Chief said, there's so many people that deserve awards, people who have done things just as well and everybody doesn't get recognized but I do appreciate the recognition," said Roland.
