Smoking a joint is so old-fashioned.
As marijuana use becomes more legal and mainstream in the U.S., users are coming up with creative ways the substance can be consumed.
Listed below are six forms in which pot is currently being marketed and sold.
Marijuana Butter
Recipes for pot-laced butter are readily available online and several companies sell the substance under various brand names. Marijuana butter often reportedly contains elevated concentrations of THC, the psychoactive compound that gives marijuana users a high. A 2014 story alleged that eight people at a birthday party in Spain were hospitalized after unknowingly eating a cake that was baked with marijuana butter.
Breath Spray
Late last year, an Oakland, California-based company launched a line of breath sprays that were infused with THC. According to the San Francisco Chronicle, one option “tastes minty, sweet and spiked with a bitter medicinal extract flavor.” The effects of marijuana mouth spray take just a few minutes to set in.
Sexual Lubricant
This is arguably one of the most creative uses for marijuana since the substance started becoming legal in recent years. California-based Foria sells a pot-infused sexual lubricant that is aimed at women. According to the Daily Mail, the spray uses the “relaxing properties of cannabis” to make sex better.
Tea
Creative marijuana users have been making drinks out of pot for decades but the Internet makes it easier than ever to find a recipe. An Ohio woman temporarily lost custody of her newborn daughter in September after admittedly drinking marijuana tea while pregnant. The woman claimed the tea helped with morning sickness and that she researched the health ramifications of the drink heavily.
Cotton Candy
KandyCare, a company that makes pot-infused sweets, has produced possibly the only cotton candy that will give consumers more than just a sugar high. The company’s Cotton Kandy is available in two flavors: Phaded Pink and Blazed Blue. Each package contains 55 milligrams of THC, which is an amount meant for people with a “high tolerance,” according to experts on medical marijuana.
Lotion
Colorado-based Apothecanna offers a line of skincare products derived from pot. According to the company, the lotions won’t result in a failed drug test but may provide some level of high.
