Eight people were stabbed Saturday evening in St. Cloud, Minnesota at the Crossroads Center mall, according to the city's mayor Dave Kleis.

Kleis confirmed that the suspect was shot and killed by an off-duty police officer at the mall.

Of the eight injured, one was hospitalized. The other seven were treated on the scene.

Anderson said the police had no reason to believe the was a connection to the attack happening at the roughly the same time in New York City Saturday evening. Anderson added that the police had no reason to believe the attack was an act of terrorism.

One eyewitness told the St. Cloud Times that they heard gunshots during Saturday's incident.

"All of a sudden I heard pop pop pop," shopper Harley Exsted told the paper. "I thought someone tipped over a shelf. All of a sudden these people started running. I just saw everybody running our way."
