NBC benches 'Coach' reboot

Hit the showers, "Coach."

NBC executives have canceled production on a planned reboot of the Emmy Award-winning series "Coach," according to a report from Variety on Monday.

In March, NBC announced it had ordered a sequel to the series, set to take place 18 years after the original show ended. "Coach" star Craig T. Nelson had signed on to reprise his role as Hayden Fox, a college football coach who later coached at the professional level. Original series creator Barry Kemp was attached to the reboot as well.

Variety's report cited "creative issues" as the network's reason for axing the new series.

"Coach" originally ran from 1989 to 1997 on ABC, compiling 198 episodes. Nelson won an Emmy for best actor in a comedy series in 1992, the series won an additional Emmy in 1996 and was nominated for 16 trophies during its run.
