SunOpta voluntarily recalled a limited number of sunflower kernel products, according to FDA.gov

Dakota's Best Biggy's Roasted and Salted Kernels and Planter's Sunflower Kernels were impacted, according to the FDA.

The products have the potential to be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes, which can be fatal to young children or frail or elderly people, according to the FDA.

The products were produced from Feb. 1, 2016 through Feb. 19, 2016. No illnesses have been reported to date. Those with questions can call SunOpta at 1-877-237-4374 from Monday through Friday from 8-5 p.m. or email contactus@sunopta.com.

“The quality and safety of the food we produce and the ingredients we provide are the highest priority for us," the company released in a statement. "Therefore, we are voluntarily recalling a limited number of sunflower kernel products that have the potential to be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes. We have isolated the production window to a short timeframe and are working with the FDA and customers to control and dispose of affected product. We are aware of one customer complaint that did not involve an illness, and we are not aware of any consumer issues due to consumption of this product.”
