The new school year brought a brand new school for students at Goodlettsville Middle Prep School.

The school officially opened Tuesday with a ribbon cutting ceremony.

Dr. Shawn Joseph, the new director for Metro Schools, said the new school will serve as an example for other schools within the district.

"And this particular school is an international baccalaureate school, where we're really working to make sure that our children are reflective. We're trying to make sure that they're principled. We want them to be knowledgeable, thinkers, open minded, balanced, inquirers, caring and risk takers. I mean this is the place  that will model what we expect for all 86,000 children within our school district," said Joseph.

The new 131,000 square foot school features state of the art systems including science labs, an open concept library, music rooms, and shared study spaces.
