NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Those with Vanderbilt University Medical Center said they’ve upgraded their LifeFlight fleet.

Representatives with Vanderbilt unveiled their new airplane Thursday, and it's slightly larger than the program's previous plane.

In addition to the extra space, the plane has been equipped with several new features - like ways to give blood transfusions mid-flight and a mobile intensive care unit to better transport critically ill patients.

“With the larger cargo door it really allows us to have more accessibility and to be able to load the patients, load the isolate, in a lot better way that it enhances ergonomics and allows patients to get in in a better manner,” said Jeanne Yeatman of Vanderbilt LifeFlight.

The new airplane has been based at Nashville International Airport, and officials said it can be used anywhere in the U.S.
