A new Facebook group called UrbanGirl Nashville is helping connect new Nashville residents with one another - especially those entrepreneurial women who want to start new small businesses in Music City.
The Nashville population is growing. According to reports, it's anywhere from 85 to 100 people per day. As the city continues to grow, so do the number of out-of-towners. When transplants take-over, how do they connect or find support in their new city?
Now Nashville newcomers are turning to Facebook as a way to connect and thrive in city filled with new faces.
Facebook group UrbanGirl Nashville is not an organization or a non-profit. It is an invite-only Facebook group for women looking to connect with other women.
Group Co-Founder Juliana Cox said it is a place for newcomers to meet other transplants, get support or advice, meet-up for a cup of coffee.
"It's overwhelming to see these girls connecting so honestly with each other. They can just post on our Facebook page and say 'Hey I'm opening a new business is anyone looking for a part-time gig' and almost within minutes these girls are connecting with each other," said Cox.
The group started with only a handful of members. Now that number is pushing 400.
"Honesty, transparency, I think that's so important to so many women," said Lindsey Sherrod, co-founder of UrbanGirl Nashville.
"I started reaching out to other, local entrepreneurs and I started noticing a trend where some of them were in UrbanGirl," said Laura Lemon, owner of Lemon Laine.
Since joining, Lemon's contacts grew and her store, Lemon Laine will open its first retail store on May 20.
The Facebook group is invite only, meaning, you have to know someone in the group. If you would like to join, simply send them a message online.
