NASHVILLE, Tenn.(WTVF) — A north Nashville church wants to provide meals and a place to sleep for the homeless as we deal with this next round of rain.

Starting at 8p.m. Thursday, Mount Carmel Baptist Church will feed and allow people to sleep there. This will continue through tomorrow night.

About 35 people are estimated to attend.

One organizer says she needs volunteers to serve food and provide blankets for their guests. This comes after the Cumberland River flooded a homeless camp yesterday and the people living there had to evacuate.

"I understand that maybe there was a no trespassing sign, I get that, but in the middle of the winter where you just kind of throw their stuff away, where are you suppose to go?" Outreach Coordinator Danielle Brown said.

The church is located on Monroe Street.

Open Table Nashville will also provide shelter for anyone tonight.
