An investigation got underway after a Metro Nashville Police officer fired shots at a car full of teens after the driver rammed his cruiser.

Officials said five teens were taken into custody after ramming two police cars with a stolen vehicle and then leading officers on a chase from Madison to downtown Nashville.

The pursuit began at an apartment complex on Rio Vista Drive in Madison around 10 p.m. Wednesday.

Two officers parked in front of the stolen car to prevent them from leaving. Instead, the driver – a 16-year-old – decided to flee, striking both police cruisers on his way out.

Police said Officer Jordan Lowry fired his gun twice in self-defense but no one was hit.

The pursuit took officers down Gallatin Pike where the teens tossed a stolen gun from the car.

By this time, a police helicopter was also involved in the chase – which ended just south of downtown.

The suspects, four males and one female, then ran from the car but were arrested as officers chased them down.

All five teens were facing various charges and are under investigation for potential other crimes, including robbery.

Officer Lowry, whom police said is a four-year department veteran, was placed on routine administrative assignment while the incident is investigated.
