An officer injured while trying to rescue a woman from a burning building has been released from the hospital to complete his recovery at home.
Cookeville Police Lieutenant Mitch Harrington was released from the hospital Tuesday.
Harrington was first on the scene of the April 7 fire and ran in, but quickly became disoriented. Officer Shane Livingstone was able to help him out of the house.
Lieutenant Harrington was hospitalized, and underwent several skin graft surgeries.
He has planned to get back to work eventually, but it will take a year to fully recover.
To help with the medical costs, a benefit is scheduled for this weekend.
A motorcycle ride will begin at 9:30 a.m. Saturday morning along South Lowe Avenue, just behind the Putnam County Justice Center. An auction will follow at 11:30 a.m.
