HOPKINSVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) — Two Hopkinsville Police officers helped a woman deliver her baby in a gas station parking lot.
On Monday, the call for units needed at the Marathon gas station came across Officer Lori Kryszewski and Officer Nina Wright's radios. However, all EMS services both the city and the county and were already in use that night.
That's when Nina and Lori rushed to the gas station. There they found that the mother wasn't going to make it to the hospital, the baby was coming right then and there.
"I was fully prepared to put her in the backseat of my car and drive her the rest of the way, but clearly that was not going to happen," said Officer Kryszewski.
They say that by the time they arrived, momma was ready to push.
"When she started kind of screaming, I just started taking her clothes off and I see the baby crowning; so then I knew there’s no time to wait," said Officer Wright.
There wasn't even time to wait for the fire department to show up Officer Kryszewski said, "It was on, there was no stopping, no slowing it the baby was coming now."
Officer Wright said the entire thing happened in about two minutes.
"I don’t think I said much of anything; I was just in shock that a baby was coming out in front of me," Wright said.
In a matter of minutes,Officer Kryszewski was holding a healthy baby boy.
"It was hard to hand him over, I just wanted to cuddle him, he was just the cutest little thing, full head of hair and he was just adorable," said Kryszewski.
Police tell us mom and baby are doing just fine.
