FRANKLIN, Tenn. – Officials had words of warning for those living near the Harpeth River.
The water levels have become very high, and that's why Franklin Police have asked the public to avoid going in the water.
It might look enticing and pretty, but a simple mistake could cause a dangerous situation and death.
“Anytime the river is out of its banks it poses new danger and unknown dangers, and so we really recommend that people just kind of steer clear,” said Sergeant Charlie Warner. “It's pretty to look at from a distance. It's not good to be in while it's as high as it is right now.”
The water had started to recede, but that didn’t mean it was safe as strong currents could easily sweep someone away.
Franklin Police said so far there weren’t any reports of injuries or deaths.
