NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) — Police say teen girl was killed when a car crashed into a tractor-trailer on the side of Interstate 40.
The wreck happened around 3:20 a.m. Monday along I-40 westbound at exit 216. Metro police say the semi was parked on the side of the road when the car crashed into it.
Pedro Domingo, 20, was charged with vehicular homicide in the crash.
Police say Domingo was driving a 2009 Honda Civic and was exiting I-40 when he rear-ended the tractor-trailer on the shoulder of the Donelson Pike off-ramp. The driver of the truck had stopped because he thought one of his tires was flat, according to police.
The Honda overturned and the victim, a 15 or 16-year-old girl, was ejected. She died at the scene. Domingo told police the girl's name is Marleni Gregio, however, she carried no identification.
Officials said in a press release they are still trying to confirm her identity and notify her family. Anyone with information about Gregio was asked to contact 615-862-8600.
Domingo, who police said smelled of alcohol, was transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center for treatment of minor injuries. A blood sample from him will be tested at the MNPD Crime Laboratory for alcohol content.
In addition to vehicular homicide, Domingo is charged with driving without a license and not having insurance. His bond is set at $51,500.
