One teen was killed and two others injured after a vehicle pursuit ended in a violent crash.
The crash happened early Sunday morning in Rutherford County.
Officials with the Rutherford County Sheriff’s office said a deputy attempted to pull over a 2008 Nissan 350Z after seeing it speed by on Shelbyville Highway. The vehicle was driving into oncoming traffic.
The deputy attempted to pull the vehicle over, but said the driver continued down the road.
Investigators said the suspect vehicle was clocked at speeds in excess of 130 miles per hour. The posted speed limit was 55 mph.
After less than five minutes, the deputy drove up to Marshal Knob Road, where the suspect had crashed. Officials said the driver lost control, rolled the car and slammed into an embankment.
All three teens in the vehicle were ejected.
Officials with the Tennessee Highway Patrol said 16-year-old Ibram Riad was killed. The 16-year-old driver and another 17-year-old passenger were transported by LifeFlight medical helicopter to the hospital.
None of the teens were wearing a seatbelt.
Shelbyville Highway was shut in both directions while investigators with the THP worked at the scene to determine exactly what happened.
The identities of the people involved in the crash were not released pending family notification.
It did not appear that drugs or alcohol were involved.
