Officials with the Tennessee Department of Corrections have launched "Operation Blackout" to make sure children stay safe during the Halloween season.
The annual program kicked off last week, placing stricter guidelines on registered sex offenders.
"They are not allowed to dress up, participate in any fall festival on Halloween or go trick or treating. They are required to have their door shut, their porch light off, and they do not answer the door unless we announce ourselves," said Carol Mathes.
It lasts through Nov. 1. Hundreds of TDOC Probation Parole teams will also perform random compliance checks on more than three thousand offenders in Tennessee.
