NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Mayor Megan Barry allowed Nashville Fire Department Chief Rick White to take leave after he was arrested on DUI charges.
According to a statement from the mayor, Chief White was going to retire by 2018.
However, Barry said White informed her of the arrest, which happened last week. She said she would allow him to accelerate his retirement to seek help.
She released the following statement:
“Earlier this year, Chief White informed me that he would be seeking retirement by 2018. This week, he informed me of his arrest on DUI charges and asked to take leave and accelerate his retirement plans. I accepted his decision so that he may seek any help he might need while ensuring the Fire Department was in good hands with Chief Swann.”
