Metro Nashville council members voted to change a portion of Charlotte Avenue to Dr. Martin L. King Jr. Boulevard.
Council made the vote during Tuesday night's council meeting. The downtown section of Charlotte Avenue will change its name to honor Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
Councilwoman Sharon Hurt suspended the rules to change the name to “Dr. Martin L. King Jr. Blvd.” as opposed to “Dr. M. L. King, Jr. Blvd.,” which was originally printed in the resolution.
The bill will be signed in front of the Witness Walls at the courthouse on Wednesday - the same day as the 50th anniversary of Dr. King Jr.'s death.
