A Pearl Cohn High School student was charged with having a loaded gun in class.
According the Metro Nashville Police officials, the 16-year-old girl had a loaded 9 millimeter semi-automatic pistol.
The gun was discovered in the student’s backpack by school security officers conducting a random search.
It was loaded with nine rounds, one in the chamber and eight in the magazine. She also carried six rounds in her backpack.
The teen said she was carrying the gun for protection. She was taken to juvenile detention and charged with carrying a gun on school property.
