LEBANON, Tenn. (WTVF) — Wilson Central High School parents were notified after someone at the school tested positive for active tuberculosis.
After looking at school records, the district identified 450 students and staff members who need to be tested by the health department next Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. Parents of those students were notified in a separate letter. Students whose parents didn’t receive the second notice do not need to be tested at this time.
“It’s important to note that, while TB can be contagious, it is primarily spread to individuals who have close personal contact with an infected patient on a regular basis,” the district said in the letter.
The school is hosting a community health meeting in the auditorium at 6 p.m. Wednesday. Officials with the state health department and the school district will be there to share additional information and respond to any questions or concerns.
The person who tested positive has not been at school since their diagnosis. As a precautionary measure, the school said they’ve changed the air filters in all classrooms that may have been affected, and sanitized all school buses that service Wilson Central.
