NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Officers made startling discovery while conducting a probation search at a Davidson County home.
Officials with Metro Police said Corbett Newman and Damien Shaw were arrested late Tuesday night in Antioch.
Police said Newman was on probation and conducted a home search after smelling marijuana from his residence on Bishopsgate Road.
Inside, they reportedly found a loaded revolver in one room. Police said they also found a filled Coca-Cola bottle with nails inside.
A bomb squad responded and determined it was an attempt to make a homemade explosive. Police also obtained two loaded handguns.
According to an affidavit, detectives also recovered four bags of marijuana in the basement and four marijuana plants in the fenced-in back yard, both of which Newman admitted belonged to him.
Investigators said Newman has multiple convictions for violent felonies and is prohibited from having a weapon.
Shaw, who was visiting the home, had an outstanding warrant in Missouri. He told police he was convicted of domestic violence in two other states.
Both were booked into the Metro Jail on multiple charges.
