Kentucky State Police have identified a woman whose dismembered body was found in a container floating in the Green River.
Police on Tuesday identified the woman as Kristen Edwards, 22, of Barren County.
A fisherman in Hart County came across the body that was stuffed into a container on Saturday.
"The closer we got to it, the smell, it really wasn't right," said George Bruton.
Bruton said a group of kids led him to the container that was floating along the river. Bruton said he was a former member of the Hart County Rescue Squad, but he had never seen anything like what he found inside the container. It was a bag holding human remains.
"I've never seen someone dismembered like that," said Bruton. "It was cut in sections so they could fit it in the bag."
Kentucky State Police were called to the area Saturday morning to investigate.
News of the crime troubled people in Munfordville.
"It's shocking, it's awfully upsetting something like that would happen around here," said Kaye Faulkner, a cashier at a nearby convenience store.
"They've got another Charles Manson on their hands is what it sounds like," added Betty Sue Gossett, who lives in Hart County.
Edwards' Facebook page shows she is a mother of two young children.
Police said the death is being investigated as a murder and no other details were being released. Investigators asked anyone with information about the case or about Edwards to contact state police at (270) 782-2010.
