Police Investigate Case Involving Taylor Swift

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - Murfreesboro police have been working a case involving Taylor Swift and a man who insists he's her boyfriend.

"It was assigned to a detective supervisor in the special victims unit," said Kyle Evans with the Murfreesboro Police Department.

The department was well aware that Taylor Swift is a pop superstar and officers knew she's had issues with stalkers or aggressive fans in the past. Just last year, Swift obtained a restraining order against a suspect who sent threatening messages.

So, Sgt. Kyle Evans said police took notice when talking to a man while responding to a domestic call at a home last week.

"This person made several disturbing statements to the officer," said Evans.

According to the police report the man said "that he was dating Taylor... and that he knew Ms. Swift was dating someone else, and that upset him."

He went on to say "he talked to Swift each night, and that she was aware of his feelings and told him to be patient and they would be together eventually."

Detectives later determined the man did not have a relationship with Swift, but that he seemed to genuinely believe he did.

"The statements were creepy enough to send up red flags," said Evans. For that reason, detectives did contact Swift's label to alert them of the situation.

"When someone believes they are a significant other of a famous person that could be an indication of other issues that could lead to problems in the future," said Evans.

No charges have been filed in the case, and there was no indication that the man made any threat against Swift.

However, Evans said the nature of what he said was enough to get him on the police department's radar.
