NASHVILLE, Tenn. – An alleged thief accused of trying to steal a box of donuts and a woman's purse ended up with much more than he bargained for Tuesday.

The incident happened Tuesday at an Exxon Tiger Market on West End Avenue.

Officials with Metro police said a woman was walking out of the store when the suspect, identified as Ezell Graham, approached her, grabbed her purse and stole a box of donuts.

From there, she reportedly started chasing him, along with several other people in the parking lot.

They were able to catch up with Graham and held him until police could arrive on the scene.

According to investigators, he attempted to climb out of the patrol car after officers placed him in handcuffs. They said he also tried to kick out one of the windows, causing damage to the cruiser.

Graham was taken into custody and booked into the Davidson County jail on theft charges.
