Sheriff Robert Arnold created a social media buzz Tuesday afternoon when he apparently blamed Beyonce's Super Bowl halftime performance for an attack on his home.
Late Monday night, several shots were fired at the Sheriff's home in Murfreesboro. The Sheriff, his wife and two children were home at the time of the drive-by shooting.
"In the line of duty, there's been officer shootings ever since this Super Bowl thing happened," Sheriff Arnold said.
He went on to say that 7 police officers have been killed since Beyonce performed her latest hit, "Formation," at the Super Bowl. Some said the performance was in support of Black Lives Matter, with several back-up dancers wearing outfits similar to those worn during the Black Panther Movement.
The President of the Nashville chapter of the Fraternal Order of Police said it's could be too much of a stretch to blame Beyonce for the violence.
"Overall, I don't think that people are dwelling on it," Sergeant Danny Hale said.
Hale is still a part of the Metro Nashville police force. Since the February 7 performance, Hale said there have been no discussions about changing how police operate in the area.
"Did agree with it? No," Hale said. "But you know what? There's probably a few things I do that if Beyonce saw it, she wouldn't agree either."
Sheriff Arnold did release what he is calling a clarification to the statement he made Tuesday afternoon.
"My comments reflect the violence and senseless killing of seven deputies in the U.S. since the show aired. My comments are an observation of the violence that has occurred but in no way is meant to offend anyone," the statement read.
At this point, no official motive for the drive-by shooting has been released.
