Officers pleaded with a murder suspect to pull the gun down, away from his head, but instead they watched him pull the trigger, and were left to investigate the domestic incident that left two dead.
According to Metro Nashville Police officials, 30-year-old Veronica Warren was shot and killed by 41-year-old Terry Moyers in their home on the 700 block of Chickasaw Avenue.
It happened Thursday afternoon during an argument between the two. Their 3-year-old child was in another room with an adult while the argument happened.
Police said after shooting Warren, Moyers walked into the other room where the adult and his child were to tell them he shot Veronica and was going to kill himself.
At that point, another tenant, who had heard the gun shot came to help that adult get the child out of the home.
Moyers called police saying the same thing, that he had killed Warren and was going to shoot himself.
Within minutes, officers responded to the home where they found Moyers standing outside with the gun to his head.
Officials said they tried several times to talk him out of pulling the trigger, but failed.
The officers were debriefed by counselors.
The couple's 3-year-old child was put into DCS care. Police officials said there was a domestic history between the pair, but there was no evidence of physical violence.
