Suspect Charged In Fatal Shooting Of 19-Year-Old

A suspect has reportedly confessed to fatally shooting a 19-year-old woman in Nashville.

The incident happened shortly before 6 p.m. Tuesday at the James Cayce public housing development.

According to an affidavit from Metro Nashville Police, 28-year-old Kevin Caprice Smith was charged with criminal homicide after he admitted to shooting Vastoria Lucas.  

Lucas was found with multiple gunshot wounds and taken to Vanderbilt University Medical Center, where she died.

Police quickly developed a description of the alleged shooter's getaway car and later spotted the vehicle about a mile away on Interstate 24 near Nissan Stadium.

They stopped the car near Shelby Avenue and took three men into custody for interviews.

Officers said three handguns, heroin, cocaine, pills and about $2,000 in cash were found inside the car.
