Tennessee State Senate Democratic candidate Erin Coleman was endorsed by President Obama.
Representative Coleman, who's running for the District 20 seat said she found out Wednesday about President Obama's endorsement.
Coleman is one of about 150 state-level candidates. She said she was chosen because of her service in the military and her stance for equal pay for equal work. She said the backing highlights local politics.
"Really important for people to pay attention to these state races and not just go in and go in and vote for the president which is also very, very important. But to take a second, learn about the candidates on the down ticket races and make a decision," said Coleman.
NewsChannel 5 reached out to the Dickerson campaign for a comment but have not heard back.
