A proposal that would allow handgun carry permit holders to bring their guns onto Capitol grounds has been withdrawn.
It was taken off the table Wednesday after Tennessee Speaker of the House Beth Harwell (R) met with the Lt. Governor and THP to discuss the matter.
According to Harwell's office, lawmakers have determined not to move forward at this time in the interest of saving taxpayer dollars due to the modifications that would have been needed to make the change.
This announcement came just hours after democratic lawmakers held a press conference where they voiced their opposition to the plan.
