Protestors drown out KY governor's COVID-19 press briefing

FRANKFORT, Ky. (WTVF) — Protesters rallied outside Governor Andy Beshear's COVID-19 press briefing, at times being louder than the governor himself.

About halfway through the press conference, the crowd could be heard chanting things like "Open up Kentucky" and "We want to work."

The chanting continued strong and loud even while Beshear announced the sad news of the COVID-19 death toll rising to 122.

Videos on social media show dozens of people surrounding the corner office in which the press conference was being held, shouting into the window.

During the briefing, Beshear said that as of Wednesday, Kentucky has a total of 2,291 of confirmed cases and 28,324 people have been tested.

A reporter asked about the gathering demanding the state be reopened, he responded saying, "...folks that would kill people. It would absolutely kill people...my job isn't to make the popular decision but the right decision."

The crowd continued to chant throughout the press conference saying other things like, "abortion isn't essential," "Flatten the fear" and "Fire Fauci."

As the press conference came to a close, Beshear addressed the state asking residents to continue the CDC's guideline's of social distancing and wearing masks.

"We can not step back one moment from what it takes to protect each other," Beshear said a protestors outside chanted, "We will be back."

The protests happened in multiple states around the country, hundreds gathered at Michiagan's capitol and others rallied in North Carolina and Washington D.C. as well.
