The Tennessee House Republican Caucus voted to make Representative Timothy Hill as new House Majority Whip.
The caucus voted Monday at 4 p.m. Hill won the vote 38-33.
The former House Majority Whip, Representative Jeremy Durham, resigned from the position amid reports of him sending inappropriate text messages to three women who also work at the legislature. Allegations that he was involved in an affair with another lawmaker also came to light after his resignation.
“Obviously there's a lot of stories going on about different things and different people and that's not my focus. My focus is the members, the caucus and moving forward,” said Rep. Hill after the vote.
Durham has denied the allegations of the affair, and has refused to step down from his position as representative.
