Rep. Marsha Blackburn said she’s running for U.S. Senate to replace Bob Corker, who's retiring after serving two terms.
Blackburn made the announcement Thursday morning, descirbing herself as a "hard-core, card-carrying Tennessee conservative" and decried the Republican majority in the Senate for failing to repeal former President Barack Obama's health care law.
“The left calls me a knuckle dragging conservative. I say bring it on,” said Blackburn. “I stand for the greatest country the world has ever known. I stand when our President walks in the room. And yes, I stand when I hear the Star-Spangled Banner. America needs a conservative revolution, and leaders willing to fight for it.”
Blackburn was first elected the Congress in 2002 and has been a regular guest on political talk shows on TV. She made a name for herself as a state lawmaker for opposing a fellow Republican governor's bid to introduce a state income tax.
Blackburn said she supports President Donald Trump's proposal to build a wall on the border with Mexico.
Earlier in the day, Governor Bill Haslam confirmed he would not be running for Corker’s Senate seat.
