NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Parents have known it takes more than school supplies to get kids ready for class.
State Representative Harold Love, Jr. held his annual "Healthy Start Festival" Saturday.
More than 60 community vendors donated their time to make sure kids in the North Nashville community have the support they need to get a good education.
School supplies were given out, as well as fresh food and health screenings.
"We don't know what kind of circumstance they are coming from,” Representative Love said. “We don’t know what kind of household they’re coming from. You don’t know what the living environment is like, but if we can provide them with an atmosphere where they know the community loves them and wants to see them have their best education experience, I think that starts the kid off with the right environment."
This was the third year Representative Love has hosted this festival.
Each time he's been able to give out 1,000 backpacks.
