A woman called police when she saw a construction crew demolishing a historical stone wall. She joined many who are worried about losing the region's historical landmarks and fixtures.
Rebecca Clark has lived near Beech Creek Road for years, every Sunday her family takes that route to church.
"We used to call this the magical forrest," Clark said.
However, recently their scenic drive has drastically changed. "All the sudden is was like what the crap just happened," explained Clark.
Developers are clearing the land to make room for more development. Residents like Clark fear it means losing some history in the process.
Stone walls dating back to the civil war era once stood along Beech Creek Road. Thought to be used as property boundaries, they've withstood the test of time for more than a century until this month.
"It was really devastating, I called the police," said Clark.
The city of Brentwood released the following statement on the matter;
City of Brentwood staff met with the developer after learning of the historical wall located on the property off Beech Creek Road.
The city has required the developer to relocate the wall to which we understand he is in the process now. Brentwood is proud of its historical markers from the civil war era and have helped with the relocation of such walls before.
On the west side of Wilson Pike at Old Smyrna Road is a great example of a wall that was recently rebuilt after bing relocated from its original place.
The city will continue working with this developer to make sure this historical artifact is preserved in the best way possible.
