A BBQ restaurant in Smyrna was forced to close temporarily because someone stole its hickory wood.

The wood was stolen from Better Days BBQ on Old Nashville Highway in Smyrna overnight Monday.

Owner, Richard Petty, said it was a big deal since the wood is used to smoke the meat for his business and that it's hard to find.

He told NewsChannel 5 the closure was a big financial loss, but that he was staying positive.

"When I came in Tuesday, there was plenty of hot BBQ, but there was no wood to get through the day or the rest of the week. Everything that I had split, hickory wise, for the week had been taken," said Petty.

The building did not have security cameras on the outside of the building, but Petty said he's going to soon install some.
