SMYRNA, Tenn. (WTVF) — Smyrna police said Monday they have located a riding-hailing driver they were searching for who was wanted for questioning.
Earlier on Monday, police said a woman booked a ride using Uber on Friday when the driver, identified as Jairo Duarte, drove her in the opposite direction of her destination. The woman reportedly told Duarte multiple times that he was driving in the wrong direction, but he did not respond to her.
The woman told police she believed she was being kidnapped, so she jumped out of the vehicle and Durate drove away from the scene.
"What's been reported is deeply concerning and we have removed the driver's access to the app," said an Uber spokeswoman. "We have been in contact with the rider to check on their well-being."
Smyrna police said the woman was not injured.
