NASHVILLE, Tenn. - It's every kid’s dream to get a dog, and a very special kid found his perfect companion Saturday.
Each year local breeders at River Road Retrievers have been working with Gower Elementary School to give a puppy to a special needs child.
This year the Ross family was chosen. Griff has been able to work with his new dog Chase since the puppy was just a few weeks old.
Saturday, Chase officially came home to stay.
“It helps with their emotional, physical, even spiritual development,” said Sarah Short, owner of River Road Retrievers. “Sometimes if they are non-verbal a child can speak with a dog and they have that companionship and that contact.”
Saturday marked the third year River Road Retrievers has given a puppy away.
Families from the previous years were also at the celebration.
