Metro Nashville police investigated a robbery that ended in a shootout in Bellevue early Wednesday morning.

The incident happened at around midnight on General George Patton Road.

Investigators said some robbers followed people who were driving into the neighborhood. Then, the robbers confronted the victims, who were still in their vehicle. They threatened to rob the people in the car.

That's when, police said, the victim began honking his car horn and caught the attention of a nearby homeowner. That homeowner then came outside to see what was going on, and fired off a gunshot at the robbers, who returned fire.

The suspects got away with a purse. No one was hurt.

Metro Nashville police said they don't have much of a description of the suspects at this point.
