NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) — A Nashville church celebrated a major milestone in a unique, socially distant way on Sunday.

Inside their own vehicles, church members honked for 95 seconds to mark Saint James Missionary Baptist Church's 95th anniversary. Members filled three parking lots on Sunday afternoon.

The celebration is in recognition of the biblical theme "blowing our horns in honor of the Horn of Salvation," the church said.

The church first opened its doors in Nashville in September of 1925. Leaders said it means a lot to find a way to celebrate - even during a pandemic.

"This branch is still healthy and strong after 95 years, and even during the time of a pandemic, that means much. It brings great joy to my heart," said Dr. George Brooks, pastor at the church.

Brooks said the community is looking forward to an in-person celebration for the church's next milestone.
